Chapter 116 Psychic Power
Chapter 116 Psychic Power
Along with Ivan came a group of small airships.
These vehicles, which use anti-gravity technology, cruise at high altitudes where ground-based weapons cannot reach them, and then begin to use their own machine guns and thermal weapons to sweep the ground.
Neither Plague Walkers, Nurglings nor Chaos Disciples can attack units that are too high.
They launched virus bombs, but they were intercepted in mid-air; they fired bullets into the air, but the bullets only splashed a few sparks on the thickened armor of the airship and didn't even scratch the paint.
However, the weapons on the airship were able to accurately strike enemies on the ground. No matter if they were plague zombies or Chaos believers, they would be turned into blood plasma with just one shot from the machine gun. Even the Nurglings hiding behind the bunkers were scanned out and accurately eliminated by armor-piercing bullets.
But Ivan didn't care about the battle situation elsewhere. When the airship stopped, the huge Alpha jumped out of the cabin first, then spread out his palms for Ivan to step on, and then the huge mechanical servant lifted Ivan steadily and put him on the ground.
"Is my machine effective?" The first thing Ivan asked Howard after coming down was.
So Howard briefly told Ivan the process and results of the previous experiment.
"As expected," Ivan replied calmly, "but as long as it works, that's fine."
Then he turned his attention to Arabelle and Char, both of whom had risen to their feet. Char's mechanical components were largely shattered, and oil and steam were still leaking from many parts. Arabelle was in relatively good condition, but her mechanical arm, having blocked a blow from Dylan's tentacles, had a dent in its outer shell.
Seeing this situation, Ivan ordered the other servitors and servoskulls he brought to repair Char, while he personally walked up to Arabel.
He then pulled a cloth bag from his robes, bearing the words of the Mechanicus, and handed it to Arabelle.
"I think this thing will help you." Ivan said.
Arabelle took the bag hesitantly, untied the rope, and poured the contents into her hands, discovering it was a large-caliber, black revolver.
"You have to respect it and be pious to it," Ivan said, "then it will respond to you."
Arabelle tried the revolver and seemed quite satisfied with it. She whistled and said to Ivan, "Thank you. I will take good care of it."
After solving the problem at hand, Ivan looked back at Howard who was standing there and said, "You, come with me."
Then he looked at Arabelle again. "You can follow too."
Finally he looked at Char: "You should stay here."
Char nodded in agreement.
Although Ivan didn't say why he wanted to take Howard away, no one present raised any objection, so Howard had to temporarily endure the discomfort in his body and slowly move forward step by step. However, after a few steps, Arabelle supported him, so he was able to barely keep up with Ivan, who had no intention of waiting for him.
It seemed that Ivan wanted to board the airship again and transfer Howard to another place, but in the process of walking towards the airship, Howard suddenly heard a slight crisp sound under his feet, as if he stepped on a thin layer of glass and broke it.
Howard lowered his head and saw that there were indeed small pieces of something like glass fragments under his feet.
And these fragments also remained on the path he and Arabelle had just walked.
The fragments were shaped like their footprints, but the edges stretched upward, like the outlines they had left in the mud.
Howard squatted down, picked up a piece of glass and placed it in his palm.
The glass was very cold. When placed in the palm of my hand, its volume quickly decreased, and finally, it turned into a pool of liquid.
Howard realized that this was not glass at all, but ice.
Then he suddenly realized something and blurted out, "Be careful! It's psychic energy!"
Psionics is a type of energy that fills the subspace. Using this energy, one can do many things that go against common sense or even basic theory in the real universe, such as flying and resurrection.
The subspace is a plane that overlaps with the real universe. There is an eternal barrier between the two planes, which blocks the communication between the two planes.
But this barrier is not without holes, and those holes are the "soul".
From the perspective of life in the material universe, the soul is the shadow left by the flesh and blood body in the subspace; but from the perspective of creatures in the subspace, the soul is the "door" from the subspace to the material universe.
Like tiny holes in a thin film.
The existence of the "gate" connects the two planes, so the energy in the subspace can flow into the real universe through this gate, affecting the real universe and forming a phenomenon called psychic power in the real universe.
Those who can communicate with the Warp and utilize its energy through themselves are called psykers.
The stronger the soul, the larger the "door" of the channel, the more psychic energy that can be utilized, and the stronger the psychic.
It is also easier to lose control.
Whether a psyker is prone to losing control is not determined by his own will, but by the creatures in the warp.
Most intelligent life forms in this world have souls, and each soul is a channel connecting the two worlds. The barrier between reality and subspace seems to be riddled with holes.
However, the channels created by the souls of most life forms are no more than the size of pinholes in the eyes of those warp creatures. These tiny channels generally have no use value, and no warp life forms will be particularly interested in them.
But psykers are different. To those creatures in the warp, psykers are channels that allow them to freely enter and exit the real universe and the warp. Whether they will use these channels depends entirely on their plans or moods.
In the real universe, a psyker might be a powerful allied force on the battlefield, dominating the battlefield with lightning and thunder one moment. The next, creatures of the Warp tear open his body from the inside, opening a passage through which a steady stream of demons emerges, and the battlefield's powerful force instantly becomes a monster spawning point.
Therefore, the Empire's control over psychics is extremely strict. If a psychic shows even the slightest possibility of losing control, he will be dealt with directly, regardless of his loyalty.
From the appearance of Nurglings and Nurglings, Howard already knew that a monster spawning point had been opened, and the situation was gradually deteriorating to a point where they could not control it.
And now, the abnormally low temperature phenomenon has appeared here, which means that psychic energy is being used somewhere nearby.
Because low temperature is a phenomenon that often occurs in the real universe when psychic power is used.
