Chapter 148 Dinner Date
Chapter 148 Dinner Date
Su Zimo was concentrating on fixing her makeup which was a little messy due to being busy in front of the makeup mirror when her cell phone rang suddenly and Lin Xuan's name flashed on the screen. His heart tightened and he reflexively thought that Ye Wanqing was in some trouble.
"Sister Wanqing she..." Su Zimo was interrupted by an anxious and urgent voice from the other end of the phone before he could finish his words.
Lin Xuan stood in front of the French window, his eyes piercing the dim lights of the city. His voice was calm: "She is fine."
Hearing this affirmative answer, Su Zimo finally felt relieved, but then his tone turned cold: "So, what exactly do you want to talk to me about?"
Su Zimo's prejudice against Lin Xuan cannot be resolved overnight.
"Are you in Pingcheng now? If you are free on Friday, we might as well have a face-to-face meeting." There was a hint of irresistibility in Lin Xuan's words.
"Why should I see you?" Su Zimo asked back with a hint of displeasure.
"If you don't want Ye Wanqing to encounter any misfortune, I suggest you reconsider it." Lin Xuan's words were understated, but like an invisible sword, they struck the softest part of Su Zimo's heart.
Although Su Zimo was unwilling, he also knew that Lin Xuan's words were not groundless, so he reluctantly agreed: "What do you mean by this? What do you plan to do to her?"
"See you on Friday." Lin Xuan left this sentence and hung up the phone, leaving Su Zimo on the other end of the phone shaking with anger, almost biting his lips.
Li Meng noticed that Su Zimo looked uneasy and asked with concern, "Who's calling? What's wrong?"
"Lin Xuan's." Su Zimo answered briefly with a gloomy expression.
Li Meng frowned upon hearing this: "Why is he looking for you at this time? Is there something urgent?"
"I don't know either. He asked me to meet him on Friday." Su Zimo's tone was a little helpless.
Li Meng had a bad feeling in her heart: "Why would he ask you to meet for no reason? There must be something fishy going on."
Su Zimo turned to look at Li Meng, his eyes firm: "Don't tell Sister Wanqing about this for now, so as not to worry her."
After saying that, Su Zimo turned around and went back to the dressing room to continue her unfinished makeup.
Li Meng looked at Su Zimo's back, her heart full of doubts about Lin Xuan's invitation. But she also understood that since Su Zimo didn't allow her to tell Ye Wanqing, she could only observe secretly and wait for the situation to develop.
As night fell, the drizzle continued all day and finally showed signs of subsiding in the evening.
Ye Wanqing drove to an antique restaurant. After parking the car, she unbuckled her seat belt and looked at the blurry night outside the window. After hesitating for a moment, she picked up an umbrella and got out of the car.
The rain hadn't stopped, but it had thinned out. Fine threads of rain swayed gently in the breeze before quickly dissipating. Ye Wanqing, holding an umbrella, walked slowly along the corridors lined with carved beams and painted buildings, under the hazy moonlight.
The corridor was filled with lanterns, and the dim light sprinkled on the wooden floor, adding a touch of warmth and romance. Ye Wanqing put away her umbrella and stepped into the box.
Zhao Jinyu had been waiting for a long time. He poured a cup of fragrant tea for Ye Wanqing. There was also a basket of steaming osmanthus cake on the table, and the air was filled with the faint fragrance of osmanthus.
Ye Wanqing placed her umbrella in the umbrella bucket beside her, picked up her bag, and walked to the table to sit down. She looked out the window and saw a osmanthus fragrans tree planted in the small courtyard below the window, its lush branches dotted with small white flowers like stars.
April is rainy, and after a night of baptism, the sweet-scented osmanthus flowers are even more refreshing and refined. Zhao Jinyu took a sip of tea and smiled, "What are you looking at? You look so engrossed."
"Nothing, I just think this Osmanthus fragrans tree is beautiful." Ye Wanqing responded with a smile, pointing her slender fingers outside the window.
Zhao Jinyu followed her finger and suddenly realized, "If you hadn't told me, I really hadn't noticed it. When I came in just now, I smelled the sweet scent of osmanthus and thought it was the lingering fragrance left by the previous table of guests."
He then added, "So I specially ordered a basket of osmanthus cake for you. I think you will like it."
Upon hearing this, Ye Wanqing raised a gentle smile: "You are really thoughtful, but my sense of smell is much more sensitive than yours."
Zhao Jinyu handed the menu to Ye Wanqing and said lovingly, "Well, since Miss Ye, who has a keen sense of smell, is so confident, please take a look at what delicious dishes you would like to taste tonight."
Ye Wanqing took the menu shyly, flipped through it, and finally ordered two of her favorite dishes.
Zhao Jinyu raised one eyebrow slightly upon hearing this, a playful smile playing on his lips. "If it weren't for my good memory, I would have almost forgotten that you also preferred these two delicacies when we met here last time."
Ye Wanqing smiled slightly, a dazed look in her eyes, "Really? Perhaps it's because I've been dealing with so many trivial matters lately that my memory is a little fuzzy."
Zhao Jinyu chuckled softly, her tone filled with a hint of doting, "This kind of persistence is rare."
Ye Wanqing gently lowered her eyelids, and her eyelashes cast faint shadows under the soft light, like two small fans, swaying gently under her eyelids.
She gently stirred the tea in the cup, and ripples spread out, breaking the tranquility of the water.
Zhao Jinyu added a few exquisite side dishes and specially ordered a bowl of warm and nourishing soup.
The lighting in the box is soft and hazy. The restaurant's decorative style incorporates the gentleness and elegance of the Jiangnan water town. The light shines through the exquisite lampshade, casting mottled shadows, adding a touch of romance and warmth to the meal.
However, Zhao Jinyu keenly noticed the faint dark circles under Ye Wanqing's eyes. Even though she tried her best to cover them up with exquisite makeup, the fatigue was still difficult to completely conceal.
Her skin was as white as snow, and the dark circles under her eyes were more prominent against her skin tone. Even the carefully applied concealer could not completely hide the signs of fatigue.
"Have you had trouble falling asleep again recently?" There was some concern in Zhao Jinyu's voice. He knew very well that Ye Wanqing was troubled by insomnia. Once upon a time, her insomnia had reached the point where she had to rely on medication.
Ye Wanqing pursed her lips slightly, with a hint of helplessness in her voice, "Well, it's always like this."
"How is the progress of the new book?" Zhao Jinyu asked with concern.
Ye Wanqing took a sip of tea. As the weather turned cooler and they were sitting by the window, cold wind blew from time to time, and the tea had already lost its temperature.
The icy tea slid down my throat, bringing a subtle chill. "Progress is slow, and I can't seem to find the feeling."
Zhao Jinyu didn't delve into it, but simply smiled. "It's been raining a lot lately, but it should clear up next week. Do you remember the skiing trip I mentioned earlier?"
Ye Wanqing certainly remembered. She looked up at Zhao Jinyu with some hesitation in her eyes. "The company has been very busy lately. I'm afraid you can't spare the time, right?"
"The company is busy, but it can still function without me. No matter how busy it is, you should give yourself a break, right?" Zhao Jinyu said, reaching out to pick up Ye Wanqing's empty teacup. "The tea is cold, why are you still drinking it?"
Ye Wanqing was slightly stunned, then smiled and said, "I didn't notice."
Zhao Jinyu looked at her gently, with a strange light flashing in his narrow eyes. Just as he was about to speak, the waiter came in with a steaming soup.
After the waiter left, Zhao Jinyu cleverly changed the subject: "Then the ski trip is settled."
Ye Wanqing nodded gently, her voice soft, "Okay."
Zhao Jinyu helped her tear open the seal of the seasoning packet and said, "Add some salt yourself."
"Thank you." Ye Wanqing said softly, with a hint of gratitude in her voice.
Zhao Jinyu chuckled, crossed his arms, leaned back in his chair, and looked deeply at Ye Wanqing as she drank the soup.
He always felt that Ye Wanqing seemed a little unusual today, but he couldn't tell what was wrong.
After the meal, Zhao Jinyu didn't notice anything unusual about Ye Wanqing. When she stood up to leave, Ye Wanqing's bag accidentally slipped and a small medicine box fell out.
Zhao Jinyu was quick to pick up the medicine box before Ye Wanqing. His eyes swept over the words on the medicine box, and his brows couldn't help but frown slightly: "Why are you taking this medicine?"
Ye Wanqing quickly reached out to take back the medicine box, and said reluctantly, "It's nothing, I just have some neurasthenia and need some treatment."
"Olanzapine?" Zhao Jinyu muttered to himself. This is clearly an anti-anxiety and anti-depressant drug, not just a sleeping pill.
But seeing that Ye Wanqing obviously didn't want to talk more, he didn't ask any further questions, but was secretly worried in his heart.
