Chapter 422 The Predator Trapping Plan (21)
Chapter 422 The Predator Trapping Plan (21)
"It's fine as long as the inside is fixed, why do we need to polish the outside too?" Shen Rong asked. "If we make it look brand new, won't it get stolen as soon as we drive it out?"
“He doesn’t like the old one.” Yan Zhen glanced meaningfully at the abandoned spaceship that served as their base, where Qin Jiu was sitting on the roof wiping his pistol.
Noticing her gaze, Qin Jiu didn't flinch but smiled at her openly.
Shen Rong: "..."
Yan Zhen knew what Shen Rong wanted to say as soon as he saw her expression.
She whispered, "Judging from Qin Jiu's manners, you can tell he always has the best of everything. We need his help, so we should try to accommodate him as much as possible within our limited resources."
Speaking of this, Shen Rong pulled down the towel draped around her neck, leaned close to Yan Zhen's ear and whispered, "I think Qin Jiu has a problem."
"Ok?"
"The equipment he was wearing today, he said, was stolen on the way, but the survivors in Sector C are all poorer than the last. Even a large base like Leo's can't afford such high-level equipment. He wasn't telling us the truth."
Also, he was looking for parts in Zone B during the day and disappeared for the whole day. He didn't come back until evening, covered in dirt and with machine oil on his gloves.
He didn't look like he was just wandering around; it was as if he was rummaging through a garbage dump. I suspect that his coming back to Area C with us wasn't accidental, but premeditated. He must have had some other purpose in coming here.
After hearing this, Yan Zhen raised an eyebrow: "You've observed very carefully."
She noticed everything Shen Rong said, but she didn't say anything.
"What's with your reaction?" Shen Rong punched her. "Don't tell me you're so infatuated with him that you're planning to ignore such obvious suspicions!"
Yan Zhen hissed in pain after being hit: "I didn't get worked up about him, nor did I pretend not to see him. The problem is, we are no match for a high-level mental power expert like him. Whatever he wants to do here, we are powerless to stop him, aren't we?"
Shen Rong: "...Well, it's good to take precautions."
“I can guarantee that he has no ill intentions towards us,” Yan Zhen said.
"why?"
Yan Zhen shrugged: "If he wanted to do anything to us, he would have done it already. Why would he need to play along with us noobs?"
Shen Rong: "..."
"Put aside your prejudices," Yan Zhen said gently. "He's really not the kind of person you think he is."
Yan Zhen's words were reasonable and well-founded, and Shen Rong was unable to refute them.
But she was somewhat annoyed: "Anyway...anyway, don't get too carried away with him. Men are all the same! And the clients you bring back from the red-light district are no better!"
"Okay, okay." Yan Zhen held out his hand to her, "Hand me the pliers."
Shen Rong: "..."
-
The next morning, Yan Zhen got up very early and worked overtime for four hours. By noon, the aircraft was repaired.
Yan Zhen called Qin Jiu over and handed him the start key: "Try it out."
Qin Jiu took the key, sat in the cockpit, started the aircraft, and soared into the sky.
He spun around in mid-air a few times before landing back in place, a smile playing on his lips: "Great feel, thanks."
"You're welcome," Yan Zhen said. "From now on, it will be your mode of transportation. You can drive it wherever you want without reporting to us. But if you're not coming back at night, just let us know so we don't have to go looking for you."
Qin Jiu was taken aback.
Yan Zhen noticed his momentary daze and decided to lay it all out: "I don't know what you want to do at N613. If you don't want to say, we won't ask. You do your thing, we won't interfere. I only have one request."
"what?"
"You must not have any ulterior motives towards us."
"Okay." Qin Jiu readily agreed. He took off a thin silver necklace from his neck, threaded it through the starter key, and hung the key around his neck.
In the afternoon, Qin Jiu openly and legitimately took his aircraft out.
Shen Rong and Haier were squatting by the door of the abandoned spaceship, digesting their food, when they heard the sound of the spacecraft starting up. Haier asked, "Who went out?"
"Your brother-in-law."
Haier was taken aback: "What?"
Shen Rong stood up and said irritably, "Your sister Jiang is going to find you a brother-in-law, aren't you happy? Aren't you excited?"
Haier: "..."
-
Qin Jiu returned in the evening.
He got off the aircraft, took a box of nutrient solution and half a dozen cans of food from the back seat, and handed them to Haier.
Haier opened the can and looked closely at the words on it.
Upon realizing it was canned vegetables, he screamed, "Canned vegetables! Where did this come from?!"
Since arriving in N613, this barren and desolate place, he has never seen a green plant.
"A spaceship came to dump its garbage in Sector D, and we just happened to run into it," Qin Jiu said.
"Thank you, brother-in-law! We'll have boiled vegetables for dinner tonight!"
Qin Jiu paused in taking off his gloves: "What did you call me?"
"Brother-in-law," Haier said with a fawning smile, "you and Sister Jiang are getting along really fast."
"..." Qin Jiu slapped the gloves he had taken off onto Haier: "You can't yell like that, it'll get your sister Jiang in trouble."
Haier assumed he was just shy and didn't argue, happily carrying the canned food to the kitchen.
Qin Jiu washed his face, walked out of the cabin, and saw that the lights were on in the repair spaceship cabin not far away. He guessed that Jiang Ti was working overtime to repair it again.
He hesitated for a moment, then walked over.
This was Qin Jiu's first time entering the repair spaceship. The place was filled with the smell of engine oil, and the parts dismantled from different wreckage were pieced together, making the cabin look like a broken doll that had been patched up with needle and thread.
Yan Zhen was repairing the cockpit when she heard footsteps. She turned her head and exchanged a glance with Qin Jiu, who was walking in.
"Well done." Qin Jiu looked around. "After you leave N613, you can consider going to a professional mechanical school for further studies and make a living in this field. Repair technicians are in high demand."
"Thank you for the suggestion, I'll consider it." After saying that, Yan Zhen went back to his work with a heavy heart.
Qin Jiu walked to the driver's seat and leaned back to watch Yan Zhen busy himself.
It was getting dark outside, and the cockpit was dimly lit. Yan Zhen turned on a small light clipped to the top of her hat, but the light would shift position whenever she looked up slightly.
She had to bend down and adjust her position again and again.
Seeing this, Qin Jiu reached out and took off her hat, took the small lamp, squatted down next to her to help her turn on the light and handed her repair tools.
Soon, Yan Zhen finished replacing the parts and crawled out of the narrow space under the driver's seat, covered in sweat. Parched, she turned to find a bottle of water that was placed to the side.
Qin Jiu stood there, head down, studying how to turn off the small, half-new lamp.
He searched for a while before finding a small switch at the bottom, turned off the light, and casually placed the small light on the center console.
But then his gaze was drawn to a small ornament on the center console.
It was a planetarium the size of a baby's fist, covered with a special material. When you shook the planetarium, the seawater in the ocean area on it would seem to come alive and flow.
