Chapter 177 The Chainsaw Massacre
Chapter 177 The Chainsaw Massacre
Mike's hands trembled slightly as he gripped the steering wheel, and the rearview mirror reflected the peaceful, sleeping profiles of Jessica and Ellie.
The last rays of the setting sun shone through the car window, gently illuminating their faces, as if gilding them with a hazy, soft golden edge.
However, this seemingly beautiful scene was shattered by the anxiety and confusion that filled the car.
The navigation system had been malfunctioning for a long time, and the cell phone signal had completely disappeared.
This remote road, winding through the countryside, is like an endless maze, with endless, undulating cornfields on both sides.
The tall, straight corn stalks cast eerie shadows under the twilight, swaying gently in the breeze, as if concealing countless untold secrets and dangers.
"Did we take the wrong road?" Jessica's tired voice came from the back seat. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked out the car window.
"This place looks rather desolate," she said, her voice tinged with unease and confusion.
Just as Mike was about to answer, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a dilapidated sign on the roadside ahead: 500 meters ahead, Texas specialty meat processing plant.
The sign was rusty and dilapidated, clearly abandoned for many years.
"Should we go take a look?" Ellie had woken up at some point, and her eyes suddenly lit up with interest.
"Maybe I can take some unique photos." Her eyes sparkled with curiosity and a sense of adventure.
Mike wanted to refuse decisively, but when he met the expectant eyes of the two girls, he couldn't bring himself to say no, and finally nodded.
The car slowly turned onto a narrow, overgrown road, its tires relentlessly crunching over the gravel with an unsettling creaking sound.
The abandoned slaughterhouse was even more sinister and terrifying than I had imagined.
A faded warning sign hangs on the rusty iron gate, with the words "No Entry" prominently displayed.
Mike took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy iron door. The ear-piercing metallic scraping sound instantly echoed in the empty and silent factory, like a wail from hell.
"It stinks here." Jessica instinctively covered her nose, her brows furrowed.
The air was filled with an indescribable stench of decay, a nauseating smell as if rotting flesh and rust were mixed together.
Ellie, however, was not afraid. She raised her camera and pressed the shutter on the mottled wall.
In the instant the flash went off, Mike vaguely saw something reflecting light in the corner of the wall. He cautiously approached and saw that it was a saw covered in dark red stains.
"Don't touch it!" Jessica suddenly rushed forward, grabbed his wrist tightly, and said in a trembling voice.
"There looks like blood on this." Her face turned deathly pale instantly, and fear spread rapidly in her eyes.
Just then, a dull metallic clanging sound came from deep within the factory. The three of them instantly held their breath, as if an unknown object was slowly moving in the darkness.
“It might be a rat.” Ellie tried to appear calm, but her trembling voice betrayed her inner fear.
Mike quickly turned on his phone's flashlight, and the bright beam shone directly in the direction from which the sound came.
At the end of that beam of light, a tall, imposing figure slowly turned around. The man wore a leather mask and gripped a still-dripping chainsaw tightly in his hand. His ferocious appearance was like that of a demon emerging from a nightmare.
"Run!" Mike shouted hoarsely, grabbed the two girls' hands without hesitation, and rushed towards the exit.
Behind me came the deafening roar of a chainsaw starting up, the sound growing closer and closer, like the whisper of death closing in.
They rushed out of the factory without hesitation, but the scene before them plunged their hearts into despair.
The road we came from was blocked by a rusty truck.
The roar of the chainsaw was almost upon him, and Mike could clearly feel his heart pounding wildly in his chest, as if it were about to burst out of his body at any moment.
“This way!” Jessica’s voice held a glimmer of desperate hope as she discovered a narrow path leading into the forest.
The three of them, as if grasping at a straw, ran frantically toward the path. The branches mercilessly tore at their clothes and skin, and blood seeped out, but none of them dared to stop for even a moment.
Suddenly, Ellie let out a piercing scream.
Mike quickly turned around and saw that her foot was tightly caught in a rusty animal trap, and blood stained the ground beneath her feet.
At that moment, the chainsaw killer appeared not far away, his eyes beneath the mask flashing with madness and bloodlust.
"Leave me alone!" Ellie shouted, pushing Mike away.
"Take Jessica away!"
Mike gritted his teeth, staring at the murderer so close to him, then at Jessica, who was in tears and terrified.
He knew that if he did not make a decisive choice at this moment, all three of them would lose their lives.
"I'm sorry..." He took Jessica's hand, suppressing his grief and guilt, and turned to run forward.
Behind her came Ellie's desperate cry: "Live!"
Then came the chilling sound of the chainsaw cutting into flesh, and Ellie's incredibly shrill scream.
Jessica tried to turn around, but Mike covered her eyes tightly and dragged her forward.
Tears blurred his vision, but Mike knew clearly that this was not the time for sorrow; they had to survive, for Ellie, and even more so for themselves.
Soon, Mike led Jessica to a wide road.
In the distance, they saw a motorhome driving towards them, and Mike, without hesitation, led Jessica and rushed toward the motorhome.
Huan'er was focused on driving when suddenly two figures rushed in front of the car.
Huan'er panicked and slammed on the brakes, the tires screeching against the road.
Ji Lin angrily rolled down the car window, about to explode: "Are you out of your mind? Trying to stage an accident to extort money?"
Before he could finish speaking, Mike led Jessica to Ji Lin's car window and pleaded in a trembling voice.
"Please, save us! A killer with a chainsaw is chasing us. One of our companions has already been murdered."
Upon hearing this, Ji Lin glanced at the two people in front of him, who looked panicked and disoriented. He then glanced at the radar on the car and saw a small red dot on the radar ahead.
Ji Lin asked Huan'er to take care of the two of them, while he decided to go ahead and find out what was going on.
Mike and Jessica got into the RV, and Huan'er handed them two bottles of water, indicating that they should calm down first.
Mike was panting heavily, as if he had just survived a life-or-death ordeal; Jessica was huddled in a corner, her body trembling uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face.
Ji Lin walked toward the direction shown by the radar. The surroundings were deathly silent, with only his own slightly heavy footsteps and breathing echoing in the air.
As he walked to the edge of a grove of trees, he saw shocking bloodstains and messy footprints on the ground.
Suddenly, a gust of wind howled past, rustling the leaves and making a chilling sound.
Ji Lin whirled around, only to find no one behind him. In that brief moment of relaxation, the chainsaw killer leaped down from the tree behind him.
Ji Lin reacted quickly, nimbly dodging the killer's fatal blow by sidestepping.
Subsequently, Ji Lin, with his agile skills and quick reflexes, narrowly escaped the chainsaw's frenzied swings several times.
Ji Lin also got a clear look at the chainsaw killer: a face covered in human skin...
