Chapter 144: No One Belongs Anywhere
Chapter 144: No One Belongs Anywhere
There are no get-rich-quick schemes. Those are just someone else getting rich off of you.
Zane and a few more people were going to Hena’s house for money but Xavier rubbed his hands with a weird smile.
"Let’s get rich."
Zane stopped.
All heads moved at Xavier.
Xavier stopped smiling.
"I meant... for a few seconds at least."
Xavier changed his words.
Zane nodded.
They weren’t taking Hena’s money to make themselves rich. They were going to use it for their purpose.
They walked and climbed the stairs of the basement.
Zane was in the front and he pushed open the door.
One by one, everyone came out.
But before going, some things were needed.
"We need to hide our faces." Zane said.
Xavier nodded.
Nothing happened.
"Bring something for that." Zane spelled it for Xavier.
"You were asking me?"
"This is your house."
"Right."
Xavier didn’t argue and went upstairs.
He went to a room and after a few seconds, came out with five yellow scarfs.
He gave one scarf to each person and took one for himself.
All of them covered their faces with the scarf and since it was still daytime, no one would be suspicious about the scarf.
Many people wore them to stay safe from the heat.
Seeing everything ready, they walked out of the house again.
No one looked left and right and simply followed Hena.
Zane and Draxus walked to either side of her as the others followed them behind.
While walking, Zane saw a shine coming from Hena’s finger.
He looked and it was the Flame ring.
Zane wasn’t wearing his as after merging, it had changed itself and if someone asked him about it, he won’t be able to answer it.
So he kept it in his pocket. Safe from eyes.
But if Hena had the ring...
"What do you store in the ring if your money is in your house?" Zane asked.
Hena didn’t reply.
Instantly.
She remained silent but as if gathering strength, she said:
"A few gold lumens in case of emergency. And a picture of my father."
Zane’s brows shot up.
The gold lumens that he hadn’t seen in his entire life were kept inside her ring like spare change.
"Don’t talk to her. She isn’t a fan of it." Draxus barked.
Zane didn’t mind.
He knew about people who felt exhausted among people. Solitude comforts them.
But he could still talk to Draxus.
"Why do people call her a traitor?" He asked it straight.
Hena flinched.
Draxus clenched his jaw.
"Do you live under a rock?"
"Honestly, that would be an improvement of my current living conditions."
Jammy chuckled.
"I am serious. The whole Dwarkam knows about my lady." Draxus said.
Zane let out a tired sigh.
"I just wanted to know more about the person I am borrowing money from."
Hena shot her gaze at Zane.
Zane twitched.
"It’s better if you don’t know. You have your things to deal with."
"... Understood."
That was all Zane could say.
He went silent after that.
They walked on the side of the road and no one bat an eye when they walked past people.
Hena’s and Draxus’ sword dangled around their waists and Zane tried his best to not look at Hena’s waist.
She might interpret it wrongly and his eyes might betray him to look below the waist as well.
Shit. Focus. Relic. Relic.
Zane slapped himself and looked ahead.
Hena and the others decided to ignore that and Draxus shifted Hena a little away from Zane after that act.
"You can’t walk normally, can you? Either you have to punch air or slap yourself." Xavier commented.
"You punch air while walking?" Jammy asked.
"Different story." Zane only said this.
They laughed and amidst the hustle of the city, they crossed into the area of ultra rich.
The Blue Rose area.
The quantity of Wardens increased along with the size of the houses.
Each house had stationed a personal Warden in front of their gates.
Zane covered his face harder than before and his steps became sluggish.
"Stay normal. We will get caught." Draxus said.
Zane tried.
He couldn’t stay normal while being reminded how poor he was.
Nevertheless, he tried his best.
He straightened his back, pumped his chest and walked while enjoying the scenery filled with blue roses.
"Exquisite." He said.
"I said be normal." Draxus barked again.
"I am normal."
"Is this your idea of being normal? Rich people don’t act like actors in a play. And they certainly don’t say exquisite. Where did you even learn this word?"
"Then what do you want me to do?"
"Just walk like you come here daily!"
Zane changed his thinking.
He imagined the Blue Rose area as his Ashen slums and acted like he was entering there.
"That’s more like it." Draxus praised.
Zane nodded and walked like that.
He looked over his shoulder.
Jammy and Xavier were also doing good.
Jammy was a natural. He walked while smoking as if he owned the place.
Though, smoking while wearing the scarf looked out of ordinary.
Nevertheless, it didn’t attract the attention of the Wardens as they simply followed Hena.
Eventually, Hena turned right and stopped in front of a mansion.
A mansion decorated with black paint.
But it had no Wardens protecting it.
Hena opened the metallic gates and went inside.
Zane followed and when he saw the door of the house, his pupils widened.
With red paint, in capital letters, one word was written.
Traitor.
Xavier gulped but said nothing.
Jammy shook his head.
"Fucking bastards." Draxus cursed.
He went to the door and brought out his red handkerchief from his pocket.
"Every day it happens. I am tired of wiping it!"
Draxus wiped the paint and Zane wondered if his handkerchief turned red from all the wiping he did?
But more than that, Zane’s heart found a corner for Hena’s life.
Just because she was rich it didn’t mean she was accepted as well.
The world was rotten for all classes.
Draxus finished wiping the paint and extended his palm to Hena.
"The keys."
Hena shoved her hand inside her ring and fiddled.
But her brows twitched.
"I don’t have it."
"You forgot them inside again!?" Draxus clenched his hair.
"How will we enter now?" Jammy asked.
Xavier rotated his shoulders.
"We break it."
"No." Hena refused right away.
Xavier opened his mouth but before he could spew curses, Zane stepped forward.
"I can... might... help. I think. Probably."
