Chapter 387 He's lying
Chapter 387 He's lying
"The Dragon-Slaying Manual? What's that now..."
"It's also a forbidden tome, its full name is [Flo's Dragon-Slaying Techniques], and it's kept in the Kaldorei library. It's said to have been written by a goblin named Flo. A goblin slaying dragons? Nobody believes it! But it really does contain the method for making the ancient elven holy sword Quel'Serrar that we're looking for."
"hiss..."
Lorraine had a splitting headache and couldn't understand at all how Captain Terra's thoughts were related to what was mentioned in the Holy Covenant and her true intentions.
The teacher said that you should never let others lead you by the rhythm, or you will suffer a great loss... But without the teacher's help, Lorraine really didn't know what the Dragon Slaying Manual was.
Is it valuable?
Terra, seeing his bewildered expression and head-shaking, didn't bother to explain further. Terra opened the remaining pages of the Greedy Tome; there were no more words on them, but several beams of light shot out from the faint patterns on the blank pages of the tome.
Lights intertwined, and just a meter above their heads, several images appeared one after another, like a slideshow.
The first image is an insurmountable black mountain, billowing black smoke and flowing with red lava.
The second is a magnificent building located in a lava vent atop a mountain, surrounded by dwarf statues pulling massive chains, lifting a furnace. It's a furnace sculpted by the most masterful craftsmanship of nature.
Inside the furnace, countless stone sculptures in the shape of black iron golems, row upon row, column upon column, endlessly...
Like forging an army of black iron stone golems... many are still unfinished, it seems a great project is still ongoing...
The third image, however, depicts a plant Lorraine has never seen before—a green aloe vera-like plant with flame-like patterns on its leaves, seemingly growing around ash lava... It's rather peculiar.
The fourth image is blurry and flashes by... Lorraine and Tyrann both see a black shadow drift across the top of the first black volcano, and the earth seems to fall into darkness... yet there seems to be starlight twinkling, which disappears in an instant.
When I turned the page again, there was no more content after the Holy Covenant.
The scene abruptly ended, and Lorraine felt as if the thing had suddenly lost its magical energy, making the entire book seem like an ordinary object, no longer sacred.
Terra reopened the Holy Tome. Aside from the incomprehensible ancient Elvish script on the title page, the rest of the pages were blank, with only faint magical runes appearing, seemingly fading away...
"The energy is used up?"
"possible!"
......
The treasure in the hidden compartment has been inspected.
I tried and tried, but to no avail.
After carefully reviewing the contents of the Greedy Covenant, no useful information was found. Some irrelevant images and oaths seemed out of place. The person who signed it "Dream Seeker" was strange; Captain Terra said she didn't recognize the name.
However, we can find out by sending someone back to Dalaran to check... The Book of Greed, I feel like I've seen this somewhere before.
Captain Terra said that long ago, during the era of earth elves and dragons, there was a tradition of making pacts when night elves allied with other races. They would record the terms of their alliances using unique magical powers, infusing them into a vessel as a written oath.
It usually comes with certain penalties for breach of contract; if you betray someone, you will be cursed or something similar... Of course, unless it is written by a demigod or forged from special magical materials, it is generally just a token.
This greedy contract before us is clearly unique in some ways.
The image that flashed through this Greedy Covenant just now looked a lot like Blackrock Mountain, the stronghold of the Dark Iron dwarves... I heard that it's an active volcano that never goes out, and the Dark Iron dwarves hollowed out the entire volcano there to build a city in the lava.
Looking at the Black Iron Golem in the vault again, Lorraine felt nothing; he was just still shaken.
Captain Terra snapped his fingers. "I get it. Blackrock Mountain, it's Blackrock Mountain! They've formed some kind of alliance in Blackrock Mountain, they must have some goal."
"Them? Who are they...?"
Terra turned and smiled, pointing at the human prisoners, "They, I guess one side should be the people from Hillsbrad! The other side could be the Dark Iron Brotherhood, or the Blackrock Orcs... or the Thorium Brotherhood, spies from the Alliance and the Horde, demons or agents of the Old Gods... any of them are possible."
Lorraine was speechless. Anyone could be it; wasn't that just saying nothing at all?
Terra, however, believed that at least the target had been narrowed down.
......
"Bring him here and question him! Then we'll know..."
Instead of guessing, it's better to find witnesses.
The only living captive found in Hillsbrad was dragged over by the blood elf scouts and thrown to the ground. The captive wasn't actually injured, but he was clearly terrified and weak, his head constantly bowed, so Lorraine couldn't immediately make out his features.
Upon closer inspection, Lorraine realized that the prisoner was a familiar face...
He was about to call out the prisoner's name, but then stopped. Lorraine recognized the prisoner, but the prisoner might not recognize Lorraine in his previous disguise. He could use this opportunity to help Terra verify whether the guy was lying.
......
"I'm asking you, you said you've confessed everything, so what do you say about this?"
Terra's expression immediately turned cold and ruthless upon seeing the human prisoners, a chilling aura that even made Lorraine glance at her sideways. Captain Terra didn't open the Book of Greed; she simply waved it in front of the prisoners, revealing the book hidden in a secret compartment.
The prisoner seemed very curious about what was hidden in the secret compartment. He craned his neck, wanting to see it clearly, but Terra wouldn't let him see. She just shook it and then took it away.
The other person pouted helplessly, "I didn't know there was a hidden compartment here. To be honest, I've never been here before, so I don't know anything about it. I only know that the mayor has hidden a lot of good things."
"Don't know? You even know the golem's mechanisms and password! When we found you, you were destroying the vault's entrance, clearly having opened the hidden outer door. You're telling us you don't know? I think you won't admit it until you're faced with the truth. Do you really want to test the blood elves' methods?"
......
"No, no, no, I swear, I swear in the name of King Teresa of Lordaeron, everything I said is true. Otherwise, may my entire family be devoured by the undead!"
“Swear? Tyrese Menethil II was beheaded by his eldest son Arthas, I think you want to try it too…” Captain Terra sneered, “Cut off his right hand, then reattach it…let him feel the warmth of the Holy Light.”
The scout obeyed the order, and the blazing curved blade slashed down. The captive quickly pulled back his hands, tightly covering his chest, barely dodging the blade.
Terra, enraged, yelled, "Dare to hide? I'll chop him up and feed him to the dogs..."
Upon hearing this, two more guards pounced, pinning the prisoner to the floor, rendering him immobile. This time, he had nowhere to hide. The guards drew their one-handed axes, and seeing the blade approaching, he cried out, "I, Brancard, swear, everything I said is true..."
The guard looked at Captain Terra, seemingly having failed to intimidate him. Terra let out a soft sigh and was about to signal for the release of the prisoner...
Lorraine suddenly jumped out, pointed at the prisoner, and shouted, "No, he's lying!"
