Chapter 319 Business Crisis
Chapter 319 Business Crisis
My heart skipped a beat. Something had happened to the Song family? This was a huge disaster.
Song Yafei, who was exhausted in the chair, was startled by the noise and sat up abruptly.
He immediately stood up, his face filled with surprise and uncertainty.
"What's going on? Why are you shouting like that!" She walked a few steps to the door, her tone conveying displeasure at being disturbed.
The man in the suit was panting heavily, as if he had run over, and quickly gave a condensed report of what had happened.
"Ms. Song, something's happened! Our Director Zhang, who's in charge of that big project in the city..."
"What happened to Director Zhang?"
"News suddenly surfaced online that he was colluding with Dingsheng in private, and there are pictures to prove it!"
"and then?"
"Today...the stock price plummeted and hit the daily limit down!"
Song Yafei's face instantly turned extremely ugly.
At first, she was completely incredulous, but then, as if doused with ice water, she quickly calmed down, though a chill emanated from her eyes.
"Director Zhang?" she repeated, her brows furrowed.
"He's been with me for so many years, this is too strange."
"The board of directors has been calling nonstop, they want you to come back immediately to take charge!"
She paused, then asked, "Have you investigated the source of the information? Who released it?"
The man in the suit, sweat beading on his forehead, said, "We investigated, but the source is very confusing. It seems like someone is deliberately manipulating public opinion, and online trolls have also joined in. We can't suppress it at all..."
“Alright,” Song Yafei interrupted him, “I understand.”
"Go back and tell those old guys on the board that the sky isn't going to fall."
"Have Assistant Luo go to the company immediately, stabilize the situation, and find out who is behind this."
"Also, inform the public relations department not to respond to any media in the meantime, and to wait for my instructions."
Her voice was low, yet commanding, suffocating.
"But Miss Song, what about the board of directors..." The man in the suit wanted to say something more.
“There are no ‘buts’!” Song Yafei emphasized.
"I told you to let Assistant Luo handle it. If you can't even handle this little storm, you should go home and take care of your kids!"
After saying that, she slammed the ward door shut, shutting out the anxious man who was sweating profusely.
As soon as the door closed, I immediately felt the air pressure in the room drop to freezing point.
The brief peace that had been brought about by Xiaoxiaotian's peaceful sleep was instantly shattered.
With her back to me, Song Yafei's forced composure appeared particularly fragile against her tense back.
"Xiao Tian just fell asleep, don't wake him," she whispered to her father, Song Dehai, who was standing by the window, her voice tinged with weariness.
Song Dehai tactfully left the ward.
Then, as if she had exhausted all her strength, she leaned against the cold wall, closed her eyes, and her long eyelashes trembled slightly.
After a few seconds of silence, she began pacing back and forth anxiously, reaching out to grab her hair in frustration, only to find it loose and disheveled, a result of her hasty arrival at the hospital.
He paused for a moment, then finally lowered his hand dejectedly.
I stood there, not knowing what to do with my hands and feet.
Back in the company, she was decisive and efficient, while I was always... well, a bit of a superfluous character.
But now, seeing her like this, a thought popped into my head like crazy—I have to help her, at least, I can't let her bear it all alone.
But what could I do? The familiar cramping pain in my stomach returned, as if mocking my overestimation of my abilities.
I can barely take care of myself.
After hesitating for a long time, I walked over quietly and tentatively took her hand that was hanging at her side.
Her fingers were frighteningly cold, and her fingertips were trembling slightly.
She suddenly opened her eyes, her gaze sharp as a knife: "Zhang Tian, don't concern yourself with company matters."
"I didn't want to get involved." I tried to keep my voice calm.
“I just wanted you to know that I’m here.” I unconsciously and gently stroked the back of her hand with my thumb; the touch was a little rough, like polishing a fragile object.
"Just tell me what you need me to do."
She was silent for a few seconds, her tense shoulders seemed to relax a little, she sighed, and raised her other hand to press her temples.
“I know you won’t get involved, you never have before, and you certainly won’t now. This is too murky a place, you…”
She paused, seemingly choosing her words carefully.
"Just take care of yourself and Xiao Xiaotian. I'll handle things at the company, so don't get yourself involved."
“I’ll get it checked,” I said, forcing an awkward smile to reassure her.
"Don't worry, it's just a little hair loss each time, it won't kill you." After saying that, I put my hands back in my pockets, pretending to be nonchalant.
Actually, I'm quite unsure of myself. Tomorrow... who knows?
"Idiot," she muttered very softly, her voice filled with a complex mix of emotions.
Just then, little Tian on the hospital bed seemed to be having a dream. He smacked his lips twice and uttered a mumbled murmur.
Our attention was immediately drawn to it.
Song Yafei almost immediately shook off my hand, walked quickly to the bedside, bent down, and with incredibly gentle movements, carefully tucked the blanket around him.
Looking at her child's peaceful sleeping face, her tense nerves finally relaxed a little, and she slowly retreated to the chair next to her.
She sank in as if her bones had been removed, staring blankly at the ceiling, while one hand tightly gripped Xiao Xiaotian's little hand peeking out from under the blanket, as if it were her only lifeline at that moment.
Under the light, I could clearly see the vulnerability and weariness deep in her eyes, a vulnerability usually concealed by her strong personality, spreading out like a spider web.
The pain in my stomach came in waves, a reminder of my check-up tomorrow. But right now, I didn't want to think about anything else; I just wanted to stay with my wife and child.
Time passed slowly until the morning light shone through the gaps in the curtains, carrying the sultry atmosphere unique to summer.
I looked at the sleeping child on the bed, at Song Yafei who had barely closed her eyes on the chair, and at Song Dehai in the corner who had also not slept all night. Their expressions were unusually calm in the morning light.
