Chapter 254 Southern Border Forest
Chapter 254 Southern Border Forest
In an ancient ruin, a group of disciples from the Qingyun Sect are exploring their surroundings.
Suddenly, a group of demons surged out from all directions, surrounding them completely. A fierce battle instantly broke out between the two sides, resulting in casualties on both sides.
Such events continued to unfold across the Azure Cloud Continent, shrouding the entire continent in an atmosphere of tension and fear.
Lin Shushu, Mo Ze, and Xiao Jingping also sensed the tense atmosphere during their preparations. They knew that the demons had already begun their operation, and they didn't have much time left.
Now, the major sects on the continent have secretly agreed to send out many teams to various places to attract the attention of the demons, in order to buy time for Lin Shushu and the others.
"We must set off as soon as possible; we can't let the demons find the fragments of the Brahma Bowl first," Lin Shushu said solemnly, a hint of anxiety in her eyes.
Although the major sects have laid a lot of smokescreens ahead, once the demons realize what's going on, their journey will be greatly hindered.
Mo Ze and Xiao Jingping both nodded in agreement. After bidding farewell to Venerable Lingyun, they quietly embarked on their journey to find the fragments of the Brahma Bowl. Their first stop was the mysterious forest of Southern Xinjiang.
The mysterious forests of southern Xinjiang appear lush and verdant from afar, but beneath this seemingly vibrant exterior lurks endless dangers.
As the three stepped into the edge of the forest, a damp and sultry atmosphere hit them, making them feel extremely oppressed. Lin Shushu gripped the Star Mirror tightly, warily. The Star Mirror was slightly warm, as if it were sensing something.
"Be careful, this forest is filled with an eerie atmosphere," Lin Shushu whispered. Mo Ze and Xiao Jingping nodded, their hands gripping their weapons tightly, their eyes scanning their surroundings warily.
They had barely ventured deep into the forest when the surrounding fog rapidly spread, instantly reducing visibility to less than ten steps. Mo Ze frowned, attempting to dispel the fog with his spiritual power; however, the fog seemed to possess a life of its own, constantly replenishing the parts that were being dispelled.
What alarmed them even more was that since entering the forest, their cultivation seemed to be suppressed, and they could only unleash half of their strength.
"This fog is strange; we can't just wander around aimlessly." Xiao Jingping looked around warily, a worried expression on his face.
Lin Shushu closed her eyes, concentrated, and tried to use the power of the Star Mirror to sense the location of the Brahma Bowl fragment. After a moment, she opened her eyes, pointed in a direction, and said, "It should be this way. Stay close to me."
As they moved, a sharp screech came from overhead. The three looked up and saw a group of black beasts, resembling leopards with wings on their backs, swooping down from the mist. These beasts had eerie red eyes, green venom dripping from their mouths, and emitted a nauseating stench.
"Watch out, it's a flying leopard! The liquid flowing from their mouths is poisonous!" Xiao Jingping shouted.
Mo Ze struck first, unleashing a sharp sword aura towards the flying leopards. The leopards nimbly dodged the sword aura, then scattered and pounced on the three from different directions.
Lin Shushu swiftly conjured a spiritual energy shield in front of her, while simultaneously releasing several spiritual energy arrows that shot towards the approaching flying leopards. Xiao Jingping, meanwhile, used his movement technique, weaving among the flying leopards like a ghost, his sword gleaming coldly, each strike precisely aimed at the leopard's vital points.
Although they handled the situation with ease, the Flying Leopards were numerous and agile, and continuing like this would only waste time; what they needed was a quick victory.
Lin Shushu seized an opening, raised the Star Mirror, and chanted incantations. The Star Mirror shone brightly, a powerful beam of light shooting out and illuminating the surrounding mist. The flying leopards seemed to be stunned by the light, their movements becoming sluggish.
"Now's the time!" Xiao Jingping shouted, launching an attack together with Mo Ze. With the help of the Star Mirror's light, they successfully repelled the flying leopard pack.
After a fierce battle, the three continued onward. As they ventured deeper into the forest, the ground suddenly trembled violently. A gigantic vine burst forth from the earth, sweeping towards them.
With lightning speed, Xiao Jingping leaped into the air and slashed fiercely at the vines with his sword. With a "bang," the vines were severed, and green sap splattered out.
However, this was just the beginning. More vines began to sprout from the surrounding ground, coiling around the three like giant pythons. These vines were no ordinary vines; each of their attacks carried a strange power.
While fending off the attacks of the vines, Lin Shushu observed her surroundings. "This is probably an ancient formation that has been triggered!" she warned the other two.
Upon hearing her words, Mo Ze's expression turned grave. He wielded his longsword with incredible speed, cutting down any approaching vines. However, the vines continued their relentless attack on the three of them.
At the same time, some brightly colored snakes darted out of the grass, flicking their tongues, and swam swiftly toward them.
These small snakes were extremely fast. Lin Shushu released her spiritual power to shake off the approaching snakes, but a few still broke through her defenses and lunged at Xiao Jingping. Sensing the danger, Xiao Jingping dodged to the side, but one of them still grazed his arm, leaving a shallow bloodstain.
"Be careful, this snake is poisonous!" Lin Shushu shouted. Xiao Jingping's expression changed slightly, and he quickly circulated his spiritual power to suppress the spread of the poison. Seeing this, Mo Ze increased the intensity of his attack, trying to buy time for Xiao Jingping.
Lin Shushu knew that this couldn't go on. They couldn't waste time on these things. She raised the Star Mirror again, concentrated all her energy, and tried to break the ancient formation through the Star Mirror.
The Star Mirror shimmered, emitting rings of soft blue light. However, after a moment, the Star Mirror responded with helplessness.
Lin Shushu's heart sank, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. She had never imagined that even the Star Mirror couldn't break this formation.
This also made her realize that she was overly dependent on the Star Mirror. Ever since she obtained it, it had been helping her so much that she had the illusion that the Star Mirror was omnipotent. This incident served as a wake-up call, reminding her that a person's strength ultimately depends on themselves, and even the most powerful magical artifacts can only play a supporting role.
With this understanding, she took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, clearing her mind of distractions, and focusing her attention on the array. As soon as she concentrated, the flashing runes of the array instantly came into her view.
Lin Shushu sensed that the operation of this ancient formation actually followed an ancient rule of balance. The growth and attack of each vine followed specific patterns, like a precise dance. And those poisonous creatures did not attack randomly; their actions were also constrained by the rules of the formation.
Lin Shushu's eyes lit up as she was pleasantly surprised to find that this was exactly the same as the power of rules she had comprehended.
Lin Shushu closed her eyes, merging her spiritual power with the surrounding天地力 (heaven and earth power) to sense the power of rules hidden behind the formation. She tried to mobilize her spiritual power at a special frequency to resonate with the rules of the formation.
At this point, the vines tightened their grip, and the various poisonous creatures attacked more and more frantically, making the situation increasingly critical.
