Chapter 18: His defenses crumbled to the point of nostrils flaring!
"Uh..." Shu Yun scratched her messy hair, trying to find traces of this hostile man in her memory.
But Shu Yun's bewildered expression completely broke Qian Xinmin's defenses. He stopped crossing his arms, stopped strutting around, his square face turned bright red, and he exclaimed excitedly, "You don't recognize me? How dare you not recognize me!" His voice was so loud that passersby turned to look.
Her nostrils flared as she inhaled and exhaled, as if Shu Yun had done something to wrong her. This appearance looked rather familiar, and a thought flashed through Shu Yun's mind. "Ah, you're my dad's student, right?"
Shu Yun's words were quite tactful. If she could recall anything, it was the way this man had just broken down, exactly like when the original owner of this body rejected his advances.
The man's name was Qian Xinmin. He was a student from the countryside who was recommended to university by workers, peasants and soldiers. He had attended Shu's father's class and had met the original owner of this body a few times before wanting to pursue her.
He was arrogant and handsome, a golden phoenix who had flown out of the countryside. He was flattered by the villagers and was confident that there was no woman he couldn't win over, but he was rejected on the spot.
Shu Yun could still recall the scene from her memory: when Qian Xinmin heard the refusal, his eyes, nostrils, and mouth were wide open in disbelief, his face was flushed red with bulging veins, and he was breathing heavily.
The original owner of this body was terrified. Fortunately, some students were passing by, and she hurriedly left. She didn't see this person much after that.
It's no wonder Shu Yun couldn't remember who the man was. Before the Shu family's misfortune, she had many suitors, so it was impossible for her to remember them all.
Qian Xinmin finally calmed down: "It's good that you remembered." His self-control had improved a lot compared to before; at least he no longer thought about suddenly attacking someone.
"If you had accepted my advances back then, none of this would have happened. You wouldn't have listened, you didn't know what was good for you, and you even dared to refuse me? Now your family is ruined and you deserve this fate."
Shu Yun suddenly looked up at him, her eyes icy cold. "What did you say? You did what happened to my parents?"
Qian Xinmin vehemently denied it: "Do you have any evidence? You can't falsely accuse someone without evidence. The fact that your parents were convicted shows that they themselves have problems."
He stood there, looking down at Shu Yun, who was glaring at him angrily. He had been wrong; Shu Yun was not only not downcast or haggard, but was even more vibrant.
Because of her anger, her fair cheeks flushed slightly, and when she glared at him, it seemed as if flames were burning in her eyes, making Qian Xinmin restless again.
He licked his lips and leaned closer, saying, "I heard your house is about to be seized, right? If you have nowhere to go, I can take you in, but you'll always have to pay some price." His eyes were blatantly fixed on Shu Yun.
Gu Jun finished buying the items quickly and, as he walked out against the flow of people, he saw the man standing next to Shu Yun. Seeing that the man was about to make advances, he immediately walked away.
Upon hearing this, Shu Yun smiled, revealing her teeth, which made Qian Xinmin's heart flutter. He thought there was a chance. Shu Yun said, "Come closer."
Qian Xinmin immediately bent down and stepped forward, but instead of receiving the beauty's kiss, he felt a burning pain on his face.
Shu Yun secretly took a small bottle of chili water from her bag and sprayed it on Qian Xinmin's face, specifically targeting his nose and eyes. The spiciness made Qian Xinmin's eyes and nose run, and he looked ridiculous. "Ah, it hurts so much."
Shu Yun jogged away to create some distance between them, but before she knew it, her back pressed against a strong chest. Her smile vanished, and she looked up to meet Gu Jun's dark phoenix eyes. She was still holding the pepper spray she hadn't finished using, and she had even sprayed too much, as her cheeks were smeared with pepper red.
"You're out?" Shu Yun asked, looking a little dazed.
"Mmm." Gu Jun reached out and wiped away the blush on Shu Yun's face. His rough fingertips caressed her delicate skin, and his deep eyes made Shu Yun instinctively want to escape from his embrace.
But Gu Jun pressed down on his shoulder and pulled him behind him, saying, "Be careful."
Qian Xinmin struggled to his feet, gritting his teeth as he tried to grab Shu Yun, but his vision was blurred and he was in so much pain that he couldn't think straight. He didn't manage to grab Shu Yun, but instead grabbed an older woman who was about to rush in to buy things.
Qian Xinmin: "You're not allowed to leave."
His vision was blurred with pain, and his ears were ringing from the burning sensation. He had no idea that the person in front of him was not Shu Yun. He was still holding on tightly, his fingernails almost digging into the old woman's flesh.
But the older woman, who frequented the alleyways, was not someone to be trifled with. She scratched and clawed at Qian Xinmin, breaking his skin and drawing out chili water. Qian Xinmin cried out in pain, but he held on tightly.
Seeing this, the middle-aged woman shouted without regard for the consequences, "Someone is committing indecent acts! Come and catch the perpetrator!"
The voice was loud, and everyone around stopped what they were doing and looked at the center of the accident. In the chaos, Shu Yun saw a young woman rush out of the department store, stand next to Qian Xinmin, and anxiously wipe the pepper spray off his face with a handkerchief.
"Xinmin, are you alright?"
"Comrade, this is my girlfriend. She came with me and would never try to take advantage of you."
With a hint of condescension in her tone, the middle-aged woman pursed her lips and said, "That's hard to say. You're not a mind reader, how would you know what he's thinking? Tell him not to hold me back, or I'll take you both to the police station, and you'll behave then."
Qian Xinmin finally calmed down. After understanding the situation, he really behaved himself and obediently let go of her hand. He didn't want to make a big deal out of it. This was a crucial time for him to stay at the school, and he had also gotten together with the director's daughter. He couldn't afford to be labeled a hooligan because of this.
He bent down and apologized to the woman, and was scolded by her in front of everyone until he was so red in the face that he almost buried his face in his chest before the matter was finally over.
By the time he realized what was happening, Shu Yun had already disappeared.
Gu Jun asked after walking a distance, "Who was that person just now?"
Shu Yun recounted the whole story in detail. Gu Jun commented, "This person is emotionally unstable, self-centered, and easily angered. Next time you encounter him, don't confront him head-on; it's dangerous."
Shu Yun shook the chili water in her hand. "Look, I have this."
Gu Jun took it. The container was a water gun that children play with, except that it was filled with chili water, and you could faintly smell the pungent chili odor.
Gu Jun didn't know what Shu Yun had gone through before that made her more resourceful than other girls, even coming up with a trick like pepper spray.
"Isn't it very useful?" Shu Yun rarely showed such girlish charm, and Gu Jun praised her accordingly: "The method is good."
Before Shu Yun could even get excited, Gu Jun said, "However, this method is only suitable when there are few people and the opponent is weak and has little strength. Once the situation changes, pepper spray can only have a temporary delaying effect."
"Next time something happens, if I'm not by your side, you must put your own safety first and get out of danger as your priority." Gu Jun lowered his head and looked at Shu Yun with a serious expression.
Shu Yun sensed Gu Jun's attention and nodded obediently, "I'll remember."
"Shu Yun! What are you still doing here? Hurry home and check on things! A group of people are heading towards your house in a menacing manner!"
