Chapter 146 Turquoise Discovered in Landslide
Chapter 146 Turquoise Discovered in Landslide
Gu Jun was a man of action. The day after returning from the army, he started tinkering with honey collection. He used a discarded mosquito net to stick to his hat to make a simple mesh mask, put on long clothes and trousers, and gloves to make sure his hands and feet were completely covered, leaving no skin exposed. He then grabbed a wooden stick and headed into the mountains.
Shu Yun reminded him, "Be careful on the road."
Gu Jun had previously discovered wild honey when he went into the mountains. Deep in the forest, the trees there were taller and had denser foliage than those on the outer edge, giving one the illusion of being in a tropical rainforest.
Following his memory, Gu Jun arrived at the location and found a beehive hanging high in a thick tree, out of Gu Jun's reach. There was a swarm of bees flying around the beehive.
Gu Jun found a stick, lit it, and used the smoke to drive away the bees flying around. Then he found a stone that wasn't too light, weighed it in his hand, and struck the beehive with it. The beehive fell down, and swarms of bees poured out. Gu Jun smoked it out again with the torch, then quickly picked up the beehive and was about to leave.
Unfortunately, the bees that had just been driven away by the smoke flew back again, swarming in droves. Gu Jun felt a chill run down his spine as he listened to the buzzing of their rapidly flapping wings. His protective gear wasn't professional and probably wouldn't last long. He quickly retreated while trying to drive the bees away with smoke. As darkness fell, Gu Jun suddenly felt the ground beneath his feet become soft. It had rained for several days, making the soil damp and loose. Before Gu Jun could grab onto anything, he lost his balance, and the ground beneath his feet collapsed, pulling him down with him.
"Huff, huff." Gu Jun gasped for breath, managing to grab onto a tree branch as he slid down, which helped him control his descent.
However, before Gu Jun could even breathe a sigh of relief, the collapse in one place seemed to trigger a chain reaction, with mud and stones rolling down from all around the collapsed area, and the flying mud hitting his face.
The sky turned against them; a clap of thunder was followed by a torrent of raindrops the size of beans pelting down on the ground, making the situation even more critical.
Suddenly, Gu Jun heard a dull thud. He looked up and saw a huge rock rolling down towards him at high speed. Gu Jun looked around for a handhold. Just as the rock was about to hit him, it used a vine to lightly leap from one place to another, narrowly missing Gu Jun's arm. His clothes were torn, and blood mixed with rainwater flowed out.
With a loud "bang," a boulder crashed into the bottom of the pit, shaking the entire forest before quickly returning to calm, and the chirping of birds echoed from the woods.
Gu Jun glanced down at the bottom of the pit. It wasn't very deep, but by the moonlight, he seemed to see a faint light flash across the bottom. After thinking for a moment, he slowly moved down to the bottom of the pit.
The rain was heavy, and the torches wouldn't light. Gu Jun dug around in the mud with his hands and soon discovered something unusual. He found a blue-green stone nearby, which was not very noticeable in the darkness. Gu Jun had to let the rain wash it over him to see its true appearance. It was turquoise.
The troops had once gone up the mountain during a large-scale field training exercise to help the miners extract stones. Gu Jun had seen these kinds of stones before, and the meaning behind it was self-evident. Gu Jun's heart skipped a beat.
Shu Yun stood under the eaves, supporting her back, looking at the sky outside, which was already completely dark due to the rain. "Why haven't they come back yet?"
Suddenly, a few barks came from outside. Shu Yun craned her neck to look out and finally saw that the man behind A Xi, who was soaking wet, was Gu Jun. Shu Yun was overjoyed and quickly opened her umbrella and went out. "Why are you so late?"
Shu Yun stood on tiptoe to hold an umbrella for Gu Jun, her tone full of complaints but her eyes full of worry. She placed her hand on Gu Jun's wet arm, and her pregnant woman's sensitive sense of smell quickly detected a salty and fishy smell.
She was startled, only then noticing that Gu Jun's sleeve was already soaked in red blood. Her heart sank at the sight. "What, what happened?"
Gu Jun took a breath. "I'm fine. Let's go home first."
Once inside, Shu Yun hurriedly grabbed a towel and a first-aid kit. He rolled up Gu Jun's sleeve to apply medicine, but was stopped. "It's just a minor injury, don't worry about it for now."
Gu Jun wiped the mud off his head with a dry towel and reassured him, "Don't worry, it's nothing serious. Just stay home and relax. I'm going to the army right now, and I'll be back soon."
Gu Jun hurriedly left a few words, put down the towel, and rushed into the rain without even taking an umbrella.
"Seriously, what's going on?"
As soon as Gu Jun arrived at the camp, he reported his discovery to the regimental commander. Chen Tiejun looked solemn and said, "If there really is turquoise, it may mean that there is a copper mine nearby."
Gu Jun nodded, "If it weren't for the heavy rain causing a landslide on the mountain road, we wouldn't have been able to find this copper mine."
Chen Tiejun: "Copper mines are an important strategic resource with high value in industry, machinery and military. Especially now that we are facing a severe shortage of resources in all aspects, you and I will go to the division commander to report the situation."
Gu Jun stood at attention. "Yes, sir."
The entire military camp was brightly lit all night.
Shu Yun waited at the door for a long time but didn't see anyone. Instead, a soldier rushed over to tell her that Commander Gu had asked her to tell him that he wouldn't be coming back tonight and that she should go to bed early.
Shu Yun nodded and instructed the orderly to keep an eye on Gu Jun's arm injury.
Gu Jun didn't return home until the next morning. He took out the honeycomb that he had kept in his pocket all night, looking excited as if he had taken some kind of stimulant. This made Shu Yun, who hadn't slept well the night before, look listless.
As soon as Gu Jun saw Shu Yun, he immediately gave her a light kiss on the cheek. Shu Yun was confused and asked, "What are you doing?"
Gu Jun said excitedly, "You are my lucky star. I went to collect honey last night and accidentally discovered turquoise. You know what turquoise is, right? Last night, I invited geological experts to the site to mine it, and they have confirmed that there is a copper mine hidden deep in the mountains behind us."
Shu Yun was speechless. "So what does this have to do with me? Didn't you discover it yourself?"
Gu Jun disagreed, "If it weren't for you..." Shu Yun covered his mouth, silencing the unspoken words, "I wouldn't have gone up the mountain, and I wouldn't have discovered the mineral deposits."
Just as Shu Yun was about to speak, she suddenly felt waves of pain in her abdomen, and cold sweat immediately dripped down her back, scaring Gu Jun half to death, who was still in a state of excitement. "No, isn't it not yet the due date?"
Shu Yun gripped Gu Jun's forearm tightly, her fingertips turning white, and said with difficulty, "Let's go to the hospital first." "Yes, to the hospital." Gu Jun picked her up and rushed out.
