Chapter 156 Child Stealing, Divorce
Shu Yun rolled her eyes. "I just came to you, didn't I?"
A soft cough came from next door. Shu Yun quietly buried herself deeper into the covers and said in an even softer voice, "You're like that three-legged toad, hard to find, so I cherish you."
Gu Jun nodded in deep agreement, but upon closer reflection, he felt something was amiss. He was a toad, so why was this metaphor so inappropriate?
Before he could speak, Shu Yun pulled the blanket over him and said, "Alright, alright, can't you see everyone is sleeping? You should sleep too, don't disturb the neighbors."
Gu Jun: Okay.
He couldn't fall asleep for a while. By the moonlight shining through the window, he saw two bulges, one large and one small, on the bed. His eyes softened, and he gradually closed them.
"Squeak." The door opened gently, and Gu Jun opened his eyes in the darkness. Through the gap in the bed curtains, he saw the flickering lights in the corridor outside. He first glanced at the mother and child sleeping soundly in bed before getting up and looking toward the source of the light.
The man, bent over and hunched over, reached out his hand towards Wang Keying, who was sleeping against the wall, or rather, towards the child beside her. But before his hand could touch the child, Gu Jun kicked him to the ground. "What are you doing?"
The man was pinned to the ground by Gu Jun, groaning in pain, "It's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding."
The man's voice was loud and quickly woke Shu Yun and Wang Keying. Shu Yun asked, "Gu Jun? Gu Jun, what's wrong?"
Gu Jun softened his tone, "I'm here, it's alright."
Wang Keying instinctively hugged her child to her chest, staring in horror at the man on the ground. When the lights in the ward were turned on, Wang Keying's eyes widened in disbelief as she saw the man: "Sun Qiang? It's you!"
"Who?" Shu Yun, still half asleep, looked at the man, wearing a coat. He was of medium height and thin, with a long face and his eyes kept darting around. Anyone with eyes could see that this was a sign of guilt.
Wang Keying said with difficulty, "This, this is my husband."
Sun Qiang seemed to only then realize what was happening, and struggled violently, saying, "Yes, I am Yingzi's husband, not a bad person. You, you let me go."
Gu Jun remained unmoved. The more Sun Qiang struggled, the harder Gu Jun pressed down on him, causing Sun Qiang to cry out in pain again. "Yingzi, please tell them that I'm really not a bad person. I... I came to visit you and the child."
"Not a single word of truth comes out of your mouth." Gu Jun stomped down with his toe, causing Sun Qiang to almost choke on his breath from the pain.
Shu Yun frowned. "It's well past visiting hours at the hospital. How did you sneak into the ward? You were acting so suspiciously."
“I am Yingzi’s husband and the father of our child. What bad intentions could I possibly have? Yingzi, you are my wife. Please say something for me.”
Gu Jun snorted coldly, "Anyone sneaking in at this hour is either a thief or a human trafficker. What do you think you are?"
Sun Qiang vehemently denied it, "No, I really didn't, Yingzi, Yingzi, please say something!"
Wang Keying finally came to her senses and gave a bleak smile, "Did your mother send you here?"
Sun Qiang nodded. "Yes, my mother and I were worried about you after we went back, so we specifically asked me to come and check on you."
Wang Keying sneered, "I think your mother is so kind because she thinks the child is still young, so she can just steal her and sell her. That way, she won't have to raise a little girl, and she can make a profit. Look how black-hearted your mother is, she can even sell her own granddaughter."
Sun Qiang froze, then retorted defiantly, "Stop spouting nonsense! What evidence do you have? I'm the child's father. Can't I even come to see my child? Is the child yours alone? She's also a member of the Sun family, not someone from another clan like you."
Wang Keying's temper flared up. Sun Qiang usually wouldn't dare to utter a word in front of his mother, but he was acting all high and mighty in front of her.
She slapped the man's incessantly chattering mouth hard across the face, then slapped Sun Qiang's disgusting face again. The crisp slap left Sun Qiang stunned, followed by a fit of rage. If Gu Jun hadn't been holding him back, Sun Qiang would have gone up and started a fight with Wang Keying. "You bitch, you've got some nerve, daring to hit your man! You wait, wait until you get back and see how I deal with you!"
Wang Keying said coldly, "I'm not going back."
Before Sun Qiang could react, Wang Keying continued, "Don't go back either. I'm calling the police and having your whole family arrested."
"What?" Sun Qiang was both shocked and furious. "How dare you?"
"What's there to be afraid of?" Just then, the noise from the ward caught the attention of the nurse on duty. The nurse entered the ward and said, "What are you doing? Why aren't you sleeping at this hour?"
After saying that, Wang Keying said directly to the nurse, "Comrade, please call the police for me. I need to find the police. Someone has broken into the hospital and is trying to steal the child."
The nurse's expression turned serious as she looked at the man on the ground. "I'll be right there."
Sun Qiang retorted, "I didn't steal anything. I came to see my child. What proof do you have? It's a father's right to see his child. Even if it were the Emperor himself, I'd be right. Wang Keying, let me warn you, everyone in our brigade has the surname Sun. If you let me go without evidence, you'll be in big trouble. Are you prepared?"
Wang Keying held the child, and for a moment her expression showed hesitation and confusion. Sun Qiang saw this and smiled smugly.
Shu Yun walked over to Wang Keying and put her hand on Wang Keying's shoulder. "I think you're the one who should be preparing, right?"
Shu Yun smiled and said, "What do you mean there's no evidence? Since you're planning to steal the child tonight, your mother must have already found a buyer, and maybe even a middleman. They're probably all at your house now, just waiting for you to come back. Do you think the police will catch you red-handed when they arrive? Congratulations, you and your child will be reunited in jail tonight."
“You.” Sun Qiang’s weak spot was hit, and his face turned red and then pale.
Shu Yun comforted Wang Keying, "Don't worry, we will testify for you."
The police quickly took the people away. Considering that they were all reporting the case and the witnesses were pregnant women, the statements were taken in the ward. However, it still went on until very late, almost 2 a.m. before it was finally over. Shu Yun fed the baby again before falling asleep again.
When Shu Yun woke up, it was already bright daylight. Through the curtain, she could hear a lively noise next door; it was Wang Keying's family coming over.
"Oh dear, my poor daughter, why is your life so miserable?" the woman's voice stammered.
“The entire Sun family has been taken away by the police for investigation. Keying, what are you going to do?” A deep, weathered male voice rang out. Shu Yun heard Wang Keying’s resolute voice say, “Mom and Dad, I’m going to get a divorce. The Sun family is not a good family. I’m still young and don’t want to waste my whole life in such a family.”
The woman's crying stopped. "Then, where is the child?"
Wang Keying: "I will raise the child myself."
The woman started crying again, “My poor child, if only you had gone to university, none of this would have happened.”
Wang Keying didn't want to talk about it anymore. "Mother, don't say anymore. I've already made up my mind."
