Chapter 206 Hidden Enemy Agents
Chapter 206 Hidden Enemy Agents
“Yes, yes.” Gu Xi nodded her little head. “But Grandma’s house is very mysterious. Xiao Nan said she heard a sound upstairs, a man’s voice. But Aunt Wang said that Grandma lives alone, there is no man there. I don’t know if there is a man or not.”
Gu Xi's story went in circles, but Shu Yun's expression gradually tightened as Gu Xi described it. He straightened the little guy who was shaking his head and said seriously, "Little girl really said that she heard her uncle's voice."
"Aww." Gu Xi nodded.
The little one glanced at his mother's face, then crawled onto Shu Yun's lap, asking, "Mommy, what's wrong?"
Shu Yun patted the little guy on the back, "It's okay."
She said she was fine, but inside she was anxious as if she were in a tangled mess. The covered windows, the lack of contact with others, and the possibility of suspicious people hiding there all made Shu Yun think of the word "enemy agent".
Could the disappearances of Wang Chunmei and Ding Hongmei be related to this Granny Xu? Shu Yun didn't dare to delay. She patted the little one who was nestled comfortably in her arms and was almost drowsy. "You're sleepy. Go to sleep first. Mommy is going out for a bit."
Gu Xi rubbed her eyes and yawned, "Mom, where are we going? I want to go too."
Shu Yun ignored him, and Gu Xi followed behind Shu Yun like a little tail.
Shu Yun hurriedly closed the door and headed towards the military camp.
"Xiaoyun."
"father!"
Gu Jun's voice mingled with Gu Xi's joyful and loud voice.
Gu Jun caught his chubby son who was running towards him and asked Shu Yun, "Where are you going out to do?"
Shu Yun pulled him along, "You've come at the right time. I might have some clues about the whereabouts of Sister Wang and Ding Hongmei."
Gu Jun became serious. "How so?"
Shu Yun: "But there is a suspicious family in Sister Ke Ying's brigade. Perhaps we can focus on checking them."
Then, Shu Yun recounted everything that Wang Keying had told her before, as well as what Gu Xi had just told her, to Gu Jun. "I don't know if I'm just overthinking it, but since Sister Wang got into this situation, I immediately connected the dots."
Shu Yun gripped Gu Jun's sleeve tightly, and Gu Jun took her slightly cold hand in his. "It's not that I'm being paranoid, but his behavior is indeed suspicious."
He pulled the person back, saying, "It's cold outside and it gets dark quickly. You should go back and rest first. I'll go to the military camp to report the situation now."
Shu Yun nodded. After arriving home, Gu Jun turned to leave, but Shu Yun quickly stopped him, saying, "Wait a minute."
Shu Yun turned and ran back, and soon returned with two steaming hot steamed buns, handing them to Gu Jun. "You haven't had dinner yet, have you? Take these and eat them as you walk."
Gu Jun took it and smiled, "Hmm, my wife still thinks of me the most."
Gu Jun left, the door was closed, and the night was quiet, which made Shu Yun feel uneasy for some reason. Fortunately, Ah happy and Gu Xi were there, which eased her unease to some extent.
On the other side, in the dimly lit attic, there was a faint smell of blood. Wang Chunmei leaned against the wall, her face bruised and red from being slapped. With every breath, she felt pain in her internal organs.
Ge Ming sat on a wooden stool and smoked. Not long after, Ma Fu returned. His face was not very good. He went to the corner and wanted to beat up Wang Chunmei again to vent his anger. However, Wang Chunmei looked really scary, so he didn't do it. Instead, he looked at Ding Hongmei on the other side and punched and kicked her. After venting his anger, he spat on the ground.
Gomin: "Alright, that's about enough. Tell me what the situation is outside."
Ma Fu: "Because of those two ugly women, the city was under martial law. There were police soldiers searching everywhere. Those sons of bitches, I almost didn't make it back."
Gomin frowned: "If martial law is declared, our operations will be difficult. We need to find something to disperse the troops."
Just then, an old voice rang out from downstairs, "Xiao Fu, you can come down for dinner now."
Ma Fu: "Okay, let's go, Ming-ge, go down for dinner."
The two went downstairs together. The doors and windows were tightly closed. Inside, they ate and talked. "The Wang family's little girl is coming to learn painting tomorrow. You guys be careful not to make any noise. She already heard us before, and I managed to fool her. If it happens again, people will start to suspect something."
"Wang Keying's wife?" Ge Ming put down his chopsticks. "I remember Wang Keying getting very close to a military wife. See if you can find out any information about the military tomorrow."
Grandma Xu nodded, "I understand. I remember that the military wife's surname was Shu, Shu Yun."
"Shu Yun?" It was someone Ding Hongmei had mentioned before.
Granny Xu: "What's wrong? Are you trying to tie someone up?"
Ge Ming: "Forget it, tying up two people is enough to alert the enemy. Let's not make any rash moves."
Granny Xu snorted coldly, her eyes narrowing slightly, flashing with a cold light. "You're overthinking it. According to this old woman, if we just set the village on fire, the army nearby will definitely send troops to support us. We can use this opportunity to blow up the train station."
"It's winter now, and the ground is piled with straw and firewood. They're easy to ignite. A single spark could set a village on fire, and one village after another could easily ignite a huge conflagration."
Grandma Xu's words were icy cold, as if the lives of several villagers were as easy as crushing a few ants in her eyes, without the slightest guilt or unease.
Ma Fu and Ge Ming exchanged a glance, both seeing the apprehension they felt towards Old Lady Xu in each other's eyes. "Won't this have too wide an impact, leaving us unable to extricate ourselves?"
Granny Xu snorted coldly, "You cowards who are afraid of death. Since you've taken this job, don't you have the awareness to put your life and death aside? I've been lying low here for so many years, like a rat in a sewer, unable to see the light of day. Isn't this the moment I've been waiting for?"
Old Mrs. Xu got excited and coughed several times, her tone softening considerably. "As long as our operation goes smoothly this time, the Party and the State will not forget us. We will be recorded in history as heroes that everyone admires."
At this point, two red clouds strangely appeared on Old Mrs. Xu's pale and loose face, which was as white as tree bark. She excitedly slapped the table and said, "I'm in charge of this matter. We'll take action tomorrow afternoon. The sooner the better. If we hesitate any longer, the army will be coming to our door this afternoon."
After a moment's thought, Ge Ming nodded in agreement, "I'll contact the others later, and we'll coordinate our actions tomorrow."
As the night passed, Shu Yun slept well, holding Gu Xi, who was as warm as a small stove in her arms, but Gu Jun did not return all night.
Shu Yun shifted her body, and the little guy in her arms moved closer to her. Shu Yun tucked him in, put on a sweater and long johns, and then put on a cotton coat before getting out of bed.
The little guy is clever. When Gu Jun is around, he never lets the little guy sleep in their bedroom together. But yesterday, seeing that his dad wasn't home, his eyes rolled around a few times, and last night he brazenly took his little pillow and slept in Gu Jun's spot.
